Physiotherapy
Physical therapy helps people of all ages who have medical conditions, illnesses or injuries that limit their regular ability to move and function. A customized physical therapy program can help individuals return to their prior level of functioning, and encourage activities and lifestyle changes that can help prevent further injury and improve overall health and well being.
We assess, diagnosis, and treat the source of pain or injury using various manual therapy techniques, modalities (such as ultrasound, muscle stimulation, sports taping, acupuncture), and therapeutic exercises. For your convenience, we also use shockwave therapy, decompression treatment and laser therapy to treat a wide range of conditions.
Some of the most common conditions we treat include; TMJ, Sciatica, Arthritis, Sports Injuries, Dizziness/Vertigo, Back & Neck Pain, Hip Pain or Pre/Post Surgical Rehab.
Massage Therapy (RMT)
Massage is generally considered part of complementary and integrative medicine. It's increasingly being offered along with standard treatment for a wide range of medical conditions and situations.
Studies of the benefits of massage demonstrate that it is an effective treatment for reducing stress, pain and muscle tension. We offer various massage techniques including Swedish massage, trigger point release, myofascial release, deep tissue, and sports massage which can treat muscular pain, stress, and tension in the body.
Osteopathy
Osteopathy takes a holistic, whole-body approach to healthcare. It uses manual ‘hands-on’ techniques to improve circulation and correct altered biomechanics, without the use of drugs. Techniques include stretching, gentle pressure, and resistance, known as osteopathic manipulative medicine.
It is a complementary therapy and is used alongside conventional treatment to improve overall health and wellness.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture / TCM / Cupping Therapy may involve the insertion of very thin needles through your skin at strategic points on your body. While performing cupping, therapist puts special cups on your skin for a few minutes to create suction. A key component of traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture/cupping is most commonly used to treat pain. Increasingly, it is being used for overall wellness, including stress management.
Acupuncture points are believed to stimulate the central nervous system. This, in turn, releases chemicals into the muscles, spinal cord, and brain. These biochemical changes may stimulate the body's natural healing abilities and promote physical and emotional well-being.
The entire session is followed by elements for massage where therapist would use hands to release tension and may use a tool called Gua Sha.
Cosmetic Acupuncture
Facial acupuncture is an effective non-surgical and non-toxic method that can help to reduce the signs of aging and improve the quality and tone of the skin. It can promote a more youthful, glowing appearance by supporting overall health and well-being. It helps improve muscle tone and skin texture through increased collagen production, improve metabolism, hormonal balance and increase circulation of blood and lymph to the face.
Shockwave Therapy
Shockwave is covered under physiotherapy and is a non invasive treatment. It involves creating low energy wave pulsations that are applied directly to the injured area.
Shockwave therapy is quite effective for a lingering injury/condition by triggering body's own natural healing response. Many people report pain being reduced and mobility improved after the first treatment.
Clinicals show it help with: plantar fasciitis, bone spurs, calcific tendonitis, tennis elbow and large muscle strains.
Compression Stockings
Compression stockings help to improve blood flow circulation in your legs and feet. Compression stockings gently squeeze your legs to move blood up your legs. They are made of tight-fitting material that helps the blood vessels in your legs carry blood more efficiently back to your heart.
Wearing stockings helps:
- Improve blood circulation and energize your legs
- Help to prevent spider and varicose veins
- Decrease leg pain, swelling, heaviness and muscle stiffness
- Prevent varicose veins and swelling during pregnancy
- Help to prevent and/or manage phlebitis and/or venous thrombosis (blood clots)
You can wear compression socks while walking, running, golfing, or yoga for example or simply during periods of prolonged sitting or standing.
Pre/Post Natal Massage Therapy
Prenatal and postnatal massage can help by relieving back strain, headaches and ease postpartum stress. It may involve deep bodywork to improve circulation, that takes the strain off muscles and joints, and help during prenatal and postpartum pregnancy phases.
Trigger Point/Sports Massage Therapy
Sports massage is a deep form of soft tissue mobilization and can be applied in a sporting and non-sporting context.. Trigger point & sports massage therapy focuses on detecting and releasing trigger points or knots in the body. Located in the skeletal muscle, trigger points are spots that produce pain when compressed. In many cases, trigger points form as a result of trauma to the muscle fibers mostly playing sports.
Spinal Decompression
Covered under Physiotherapy, Spinal Decompression therapy involves stretching the spine, using a traction table or motorized device, with the goal of relieving back pain and/or leg pain. The therapist inputs your weight and height in the system and it works by gently stretching the spine according to those inputs. This change takes pressure off the spinal disks, which are gel-like cushions between the bones in your spine, by creating negative pressure in the disc. As a result, bulging or herniated disks may retract, taking pressure off nerves and other structures in your spine.
This in turn, helps promote movement of water, oxygen, and nutrient-rich fluids into the disks so they can heal.
Spinal Decompression treatment is generally accompanied by manual therapy.
